The Grinder I Use for Chutneys and Spice Blends
Every chutney on this blog goes through one small grinder in my kitchen. Readers ask about it, so here it is — the honest, everyday review.
What I grind in it?
Dry spices and podis. Semi-dry chutney pastes. And fresh leaves — coriander and mint by the handful. The little coffee grinders are too small for leaves; with chutneys, you need a bigger bowl, and this one fits everything.

Why this one works?
It is an 800W electric grinder with a detachable stainless steel bowl. The bowl comes right off, so cleaning takes a minute. No complicated settings — simple enough that I reach for it every single day.
The grinder I use:
This is the one in my kitchen — a Minhuida 800W grinder with a detachable bowl. It's bigger than the
tiny coffee grinders, so coriander and mint leaves actually fit, and it handles dry spices and semi-dry chutney pastes equally well. The bowl comes off, so cleaning takes a minute, and it's simple enough for everyday use. See it on Amazon

Why my coffee grinder failed at chutneys?
A coffee grinder is fine for a spoon of spices. Chutney is different — leaves go in by the handful, tomato and coconut add moisture, and the little bowl overflows. This bowl is bigger (about 1200 ml), so a full chutney fits in one go.

Who should skip it?
Skip it if you grind dosa batter (you need a wet grinder), or cook for 10+ people daily. If you only grind a spoon of garam masala once a month, your coffee grinder is honestly enough.
