How Long Does Chutney Last in the Fridge? Storage Guide by Type
You made a beautiful batch of chutney — now how long does it actually keep? Every chutney has a different fridge life, and guessing wrong wastes good food. This is my storage master rule (Rule 8 from my Chutney Rules Book), the one I use for every batch.
#### How long each chutney keeps
- **Cooked chutneys** (tomato, onion, dal-based): 5–7 days in the fridge.
- **Fresh herb chutneys** (mint, coriander, sandwich): 3–5 days in the fridge.
- **Coconut chutney:** 2–3 days in the fridge — it spoils the fastest.
- **Avocado chutney:** same day only.
- **Dry chutneys** (sesame, dry garlic): about 2 weeks in the fridge (from those recipes' Keeps lines).
- **In the freezer:** about 1 month for almost everything — freeze in ice-cube trays, thaw a cube or two per use.
#### The rules that make it last
- Glass jar, airtight, in the fridge.
- Always a clean, dry spoon.
- A thin oil layer on top adds 1–2 days.
